Carole Field is an accomplished canine sports professional, judge, trainer, competitor, writer, photographer, and club leader with more than 40 years of involvement in competitive dog sports and canine training. Recognized as a Dog World Award-winning obedience competitor and licensed UKC All-Breed Performance Judge, she has extensive experience in obedience, protection sports, nosework, terrier racing, and working dog evaluation.
She owned and operated a retail pet supply store and all-breed dog obedience training school for 21 years in Chicago, Illinois, providing both private and group instruction in obedience training, behavior modification, and canine sports while working with family companion dogs and competitive performance teams across a wide range of skill levels. Carole is a nationally published freelance writer and photographer focused on canine training sports and working dogs, and is highly experienced in UKC event structure, rules application, competitor development, performance judging, club operations, event management, and public representation of canine sports. Carole has handler/owner-trained 14 dogs of multiple breeds to more than 230 titles spanning AKC and UKC competition venues, as well as Schutzhund, French Ring Sport and K-9 Pro Sports, with numerous Hall of Fame recognitions, High-in-Trial and Total Dog awards, Championships and Grand Championships, and nationally recognized accomplishments in UKC Nosework competition. Her personally trained dogs have also earned first-place honors at numerous canine protection sport tournaments throughout the Midwest, including multiple victories at The Dog Sports Open, Sun Dog Street Dog Trial, and the 4-Thought “Street Wise” Civil Protection Dog Trial. At the latter event, Carole made history as the first female handler to win the competition and the first competitor in the trial’s 25-year history to achieve championship wins with two different dogs — each personally owned, trained, and handled by her. Additional first-place accomplishments were earned at The K9 Summerslam, Mr. K9’s Ladies Only Invitational, Sun Dog Pro-Am Trial, and the Windy City K-9 Club Personal Protection Dog Trial. Carole has recently been most active in UKC Nosework competition (a sport founded on the same principles used for Police K9 narcotics detection), having earned three Elite Nosework titles to date on three dogs of different breeds (Dutch Shepherd, German Shepherd and Parson Russell Terrier). Her dogs have also earned seven individual Nosework Element Championships, five individual Nosework Element Grand Championships, one overall NOSEWORK CHAMPIONSHIP and one NOSEWORK GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP.
